1 )Would you tell to our readers how did you get to the idea of a tribute EP to the legendary disco label Casablanca ?
When you try to make a special label as we do it with Gomma you always look for other labels who had a simlar idea.
At Gomma we try to have a very strong own identity. Musically and visually, and we try to release music that is different.
Casablanca Records was a very intersting label. The first 3 years they changed the pop music ´s world. Releasing music of artists that were always very crossover. Mixing Rock with Soul. Blues with Disco. The first ever top 10 electronic charts hit in the USA was on Casablanca… Donna Sumer I Feel Love…
Last year a guy who is connected to the owners of Casablanca offered us to get the possibility to do cover versions and remakes of some of the old tracks. We loved the idea and we asked PEACHES our friend if she wants to join…
2)How did Peaches get involved in the project?
She loves the old Casablanca stuff of PARLIAMENT, MORODER, SKATT BROTHERS, STEPHANIE MILLS as much as we like it.. so… we met in Berlin in a studio and did the songs, we also did two shows together, Munk live feat Peaches.. you can see on youtube.. was fun. in Berlin and Warsaw.
3)Would you tell us about the making of the tracks? How the Gomma All Stars bunch and the musicians involved (Harold Faltermeyer in particular) got together and why did you choose the Burn Studios?
Faltermeyer lives between Los Angeles and Munich. A common friend told him that we were working on this project, so he wanted to meet and hear… he liked the stuff and offered to play some keyboards… cool guy! He produced some of the biggest songs in pop history.
4)How did you choose the tracks to rework?
Everybody choosed what he liked best…
5) There will be any other “homage” of this kind out on Gomma? Maybe to other legendary labels?
Maybe… u never know.
6) Hypotetically, if somebody in the future would have the same idea as you and decide to record a tribute to Gomma, which songs would you expect to find in it?
Munk & James Murphy: Kick out the chairs
Telonius: Last Night
Esperanza feat Banjo or Freakout: Sirena
Who Made Who: Space for rent
7) Beside this new EP, which are the releases in the Gomma´s pipeline for the year 2012?
The KDMS : Debut album of London Disco Funk House Band
Gomma Dance 2012: label compilation in March
