Essere bone non basta per essere belle. L’intelligenza è sempre stata l’arma seduttrice al di sopra di tutte le altre e questa brunetta del Kansas—orgogliosa delle sue origini italiane—ha tanto da insegnare in fatto di eros.
Hello Jen, would you like to introduce yourself to italian readers that don’t know you yet?
Hello everyone! My name is Jen Rowley and i’m a photographer, model and writer living in New York City.
How your model’s career started? Has somebody just discovered you, or maybe encouraged you being discovered?
I grew up with a lot of fellow photographer friends and in 2008, much to my hesitation, one of them asked me to pose for her. I essentially became her muse for 6 months and it snowballed from there!
Which is your favourite colour?
Red, definitely.
How was Jen Rowley at high school? It was hard to become what you are now?
I went to high school in farm-country Kansas and although I didn’t have black hair or tattoos then, I stuck out like a sore thumb and dressed even more 1940’s than I do now. I did get the award for “Most Unique” my senior year though.
My journey to where I am now has not been an easy one but i’ve always been terribly optimistic and grateful for the little things. I have very exciting things coming up…
Who were, if you had, your idols, people that inspired you?
I consider myself the love child of Katharine Hepburn and Betty Page. Hepburn’s personality, sense of humor and personal style is very similar to mine and her movies are some of my favorites of that era (Bringing up baby, especially).
Page’s beauty routine and open displays of naughtiness while still projecting a childlike sense of innocence and fun and are things I’ve always respected about her. She was a revolutionary. When I get stopped in the street by people saying I look like her, I take it as a compliment in the highest regard.
How do get out if you’re in a hurry? What is your suggestion to be gorgeus in an everyday look?
Now that it’s summer, if i’m in a hurry, I throw on a summer dress or romper, curl my hair in 5 quick sections and do my make-up with a powder base (instead of creme foundation) and a bright lip (so I don’t have to spend 20 minutes perfecting my cat-eye eyeliner). Then I throw on some heels and run out the door!
Do you have a favourite photo of yourself?
That’s a really hard question, I’ve worked with some incredibly talented people. But if I HAD to pick my latest favorite, it would be this photo by the lovely Justin Walker. We’re working together again soon so expect many more bum shots, haha.
You are a model, your self-stylist, and you also do shooting, you always been interested also in the creativity part or it is a passion that grew up day by day?
I consider myself a photographer first and a model second. So I thrive on being a part of the creative/styling side, whether it’s clothing, props or locations. From the day I started modeling, I always looked at it as a collaboration so I always voice my opinions and suggestions. It has made both my modeling and photography stronger.
What do you think of European girls? And Italians girs in particular?
My heritage is German and Italian. When I get mistaken for a European girl, I take it as such a compliment! I think European girls, especially Italian girls, are some of the most beautiful women on the planet. My Italian Nana (grandmother) raised me well! Plus, anything with an accent and a pulse makes my knees week- so if it’s a beautiful brunette- my heart is automatically hers, haha. I’m now taking applications for Italian girlfriends :)
Do you think that in 2012 women are emancipated, I mean, have you ever been judged for yours nude poses?
I’m constantly amazed how ignorant a lot of people are when it comes to nudity, Americans especially. I’m not sure if it’s because of our Puritan roots or because nudity is so often associated with sex but it’s a view point we definitely should focus on changing.
We have no problem exposing people to drugs, violence, and war but GOD FORBID anyone sees a female nipple! It’s absurd. We all have naked bodies underneath our clothing, we shouldn’t be ashamed of them. They’re beautiful.
Are you a victim of jealousy more from boys or from girls?
If I had to pick one: girls. Boys don’t really get jealous of the opposite sex. If anyone reports my cheeky modeling photos on Facebook, I automatically know it’s a jealous girl. Boys never complain about seeing the female form, haha.
Do you mind if I call you the last living pin-up girl?
– I don’t mind at all, thank you! :)
The perfect colour of lipstick is…
Ruby Woo by MAC
Do you feel beautiful?
Most days, yes. And if I don’t, it’s nothing a hot bath and a glass of wine can’t fix.
Can you leave us with your favourite song?
– Another difficult question, I have a lot of favorites. “teenage in love” by Dion & the Belmonts is a song I can listen to on repeat and never tire of.
