Next Friday – January the 22nd – Touch The Wood will rediscover its indie roots with a party at Lanificio159 in Rome called – not by chance – “Indie Memories”. Along with dj-residents Marco G. & Mr. Kite, Nic of FSNCPS – the most important Roman indie night of the 2000s – and Olungbenga of Metronomy will select the best indie hits all night long.
That is why we asked Olugbenga to select for DLSO 5 songs that should never be missed for a perfect indie dj-set.
So nostalgic!
Bloc Party – So Here We Are (Four Tet Remix)
The original version of this song was and still is very special to me. Hearing Four Tet take the essential elements of the song and somehow enhance them to they pack an even bigger emotional punch really opened my mind to the possibilities of remixing.

Phoenix – 1901
I think this song has been in almost every DJ set I’ve played in the last four or five years. It’s one big musical cry of joy from start to finish.

David Bowie – Let’s Dance
Indie rock? Well, Bowie was actually without a record deal when he began work on this monster of an album with Nile Rodgers. And this song is pretty much perfect.

The Strokes – Juicebox
Possibly my favourite Strokes song, even if I have no idea what any of the lyrics mean.

Querelle – Shanty Town
When I moved back to London after university and started going to as many gigs as possible, I befriended an Italian cockney by the name of Gypsy Lonoce. He was the singer and guitarist in a devastating art-rock trio and from the opening guitar loop of Shanty Town I was absolutely hooked. They split up not long after. It’s been over ten years and their music still haunts me.
