If you should point out the merits of the other “partner in crime” as a producer, as a dj but also as a mate, what would you tell us?
MAX: Glenni is really inspiring. Probably the best producer I know, with fresh ideas when he´s working on tracks and super fast working as well. I guess he is pretty much the only one of our crew who is actually a proper DJ. (laughs) Well, with Nano & Delfonic maybe. Obviously he is a good friend, also. But what I like most about him is his tile collection. He has got them all…
GLENN: First of all he is the best looking. We actually met through music so I was a fan first, but after meeting him in person it became clear very quickly that we were also getting along very good on a friendship base.
I think I’ve never seen a producer working so quickly! He can easily make two or three whole tracks a day on a level most producers dream of! Very inspirational. Doing the album together went really smoothly, in that matter it was pretty much a track a day for the most times.
I think he hasn’t been a DJ for a very long time before we met, but also on that side he makes it look very easy. In general that’s something I really envy him. (laughs) His beats and DJ sets just sound like he’s been doing it his whole life.
Where do you find common ground when it comes to the music that influenced and inspired you during your solo careers? And it would be funny also to know where your tastes totally differ?
MAX: We’re both massive jazz fans and everything that’s related to it.
A lot of times we actually buy the same records without knowing or just order the same copy for the other one. We’re both into a lot of different stuff and always were, that’s probably the main thing.
GLENN: Things we don’t really agree on taste-wise is that I’m also really into cheesy soul and RnB stuff and 90s House & Techno, which isn’t really his thing I guess.
On the other side he’s digging a lot of those prog rock, guitar heavy records which isn’t always my cup of tea.
Fav Max´s track for Glenn? And fav Glenn´s track for Max?
GLENN:
–Itzehoe. That Bassline!
–Valencia Disco. Under the Franke & Son moniker with his dad, extremey underrated record!
–Gold by Andreia Triana in Max Graef remix. Such a beautiful thing and very different to the stuff he is known for I guess
MAX:
–Kdim (remix) feat. IMYRMIND
–Disco Tempo Cliché Intro
–One for Viktor
Your forthcoming album “The Yard Work Simulator” is released by the legendary Ninja Tune. Which are your favourite and/or most influential Ninja artists and releases?
MAX: Mr. Scruff, Coldcut, Actress, Dorian Concept… Too many to mention and definitely too many records too pick out a favorite.
GLENN: Cinematic Orchestra for sure, Mr. Scruff, Roots Manuva, DJ Vadim was definitely the deal back then also.
Can you tell us something about the making of the album?
GLENN: Pretty easy actually, we just met almost everyday last summer at my place and started working.
Before we started producing we already had the concept and tracklist of the album, so we knew how each track should sound like and what kind of sound it should have. It’s more of a concept album actually.
MAX: Dropping beats everyday…
You will play a back-to-back dj set at the Spring Attitude Festival. How do you get ready for that particular kind of sets?
MAX: Usually we don’t prepare anything. It’s more fun to get surprised by each other’s choice and then find something that might fit.
GLENN: I like to make yoga and drink detox vitamin smoothies until I feel natural high.
What´s in your pipeline for 2016 on what concernes your projects on Ninja and your single careers?
MAX: Getting rich and eat healthy.
GLENN: Expanding my tile collection. I got a hot tip from a dude in Indonesia for some first class shit. All Pantone printed…
