The first record you bought:
One-Two One-Two Compilation by Radio Deejay (1997).
Before then I had only copied records on cassette, I didn’t have pocket money yet, I was too young. I used to record the show every week on a cassette, and when the first CD came out I went everywhere in Udine trying to find it. Not much rap music in the mid 90ies made its way to the part of Italy I am from.
I found the show through my idol at the time, Shaquille O’Neal (I’m not kiddin’!). I knew that Radio Deejay (my fav radio at the time) had played a rap tune that he made. I wasn’t aware that he also made music. I had to find it again. I had everything Shaq. My room was literally wallpapered with his posters and pictures.
When the compilation came out and I saw it attached to a magazine, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that Shaq’s track was on it. From Shaq and 90s american basketball (I was 6’6’ already, 2 meter tall and played basketball competitively) I fell in love with rap. And that compilation (and the show on Radio Deejay) started it all.
