A record that made you want to start making music:
Bob Marley – Legend.
I know, a classic. Everyone’s dad had it. Well, not mine. My dad was into jazz (guitarists especially), so I grew up with Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Pat Metheney, Michael Petrucciani, Manhattan Transfer, Weather Report…
My best friend’s at the time was a guy just around the corner from my house. His dad was a local politician (quite conservative), all in all a guy that everyone loved, popular-at-the-local-bar kind of guy. He used to change car every year with the latest models. You get the type of guy. Well one day, going through stuff at my friends’ place we found out Bob Marley’s greatest hits on cd. I was mesmerised by his picture on the cover. I loved his hair. But more than anything his music. It was nothing like I have ever heard before. There was so much emotion, feelings, positivity, and yet struggle, meaning and rebellion that I found myself perfectly reflected in it. From then on I wanted to learn to play an instrument, to play that music. I started with the guitar, an acoustic guitar that my dad had and learnt Songs of Freedom, simple enough for a beginner.
