A record that makes you go all emotional:
Lauryn Hill – The Miseducation Of
I have loved Lauryn since I first watched “Sister Act 2” as a kid. Man, that version of His eye is on the sparrow still makes me shiver. And then with the Fugees, when she perfectly showed to the world her superb duality in rapping and singing and equally smashing it.
But “The Miseducation” is a step higher than anything she did before. It’s fully Lauryn, it’s her block-partying for her people, her being angry, her being in love, her showing her maternal tenderness. When Nothing Even Matters starts my eyes go wet. Automatic.
