A record that inspires you as a composer and producer:
Quincy Jones – The Pawnbroker. When I first began to explore the world of arranging through “The ClubCasa Chamber Orchestra”, I began to dig deep into sounds that inspired me for large ensemble writing—much of it was informed by the Blaxploitation genre —Curtis Mayfield, Herbie Hancock, Isaac Hayes, Willie Hutch. As I dug through these different composers I realized the thing that I most like was the cinematic nature of it all. When I was seeking to push myself further in how to utilize different textures this record ended up on repeat for about a year. Especially the main title theme (the instrumental with the string and harpsichord intro). Actually, “Peace”, one of the songs off “The Invisible Ma”, was inspired from this.
