Per quasi un decennio nessuno ha mai saputo quale fosse il sample usato in questo iconico beat di DJ Premier. Esso è rimasto segreto fino a quando, un giorno di aprile del 2008, un certo Dusty Kid pubblica sulla serie Strictly Breaks un mp3 con il sample originale, oggi ufficialmente identificato con questo canto di Natale inglese preso da un disco che Preemo aveva trovato in un lotto migliaia di dischi che aveva preso insieme a Showbiz per 4000$.
In un’intervista ha raccontato: “The day I made this record, I was at my house in Long Island, and I found this old record that I was gonna throw away. It was a 10-inch record from a Lutheran church, and it was pink with a black fish on it. And I was gonna throw it in the garbage, ‘cuz it didn’t look like it had anything hot on it. But somethin’ told me ‘before you throw it away, put it on the turntable, see if you can find something on it’. And I found that sample of ‘Nas Is Like‘”.
