Hello. I am in London, it’s a really sunny day and I’m in a coffee shop answering your questions over an iced coffee.
I’ve been big fan of yours (previously known as GEoRGiA) since hearing your debut EP for Kaya Kaya last year. But let’s talk to someone who doesn’t know you yet. How did you get into music?
I sort fell into it as a young kid. My dad is also a musician and music plays a big part in my mum’s life so they encouraged me and supported me when i expressed an interest in learning how to play instruments. Then 10 years down the line, i was playing in school bands starting to develop a sense of song writing and a love for records. I really became obsessed with the drums, i started playing them from the age of 7/8, when i was 19 i started playing for my friend Kwes and found myself touring and meeting loads of wicked people and that was my way in to the music scenes in london. I became a ‘professional’ drummer.
You’re drummer/producer/singer. Which of these roles fits you best?
They all filter into me. I cant define which suits me best really because they all make up the artist that i am. There was defiantly a time about 3 years ago where i would have loved to have conquered the world as a female drummer !
How would you describe your music?
I would describe my music as futuristic pop.
Where did the seed for your eponymous debut album spring from?
This is quite a hard question to answer. The honest one would be that I’ve always wanted to release albums and be a recognised musician/artist with career albums that reflect the development. But , also i guess the seed for this debut was a need to express something as well. I had some family issues before and during the making of the record and found writing and recording in the studio a great outlet and comfort. It drove me to finish the album and get it out there and tell my beginning story.
Who is your drummer idol?
I have a lot of idols who play the drums. I would say that Cora Coleman Dunham is a player i was always have looked up to. She is a great drummer !
