Evil Twin
Evil Twin is about taking all the things about you that you don’t like or the things that you regret doing and personifying that as someone else (your evil twin), as a method of getting over it. It’s also a realisation that the person you’ve created is the only one who knows these dark things about you. And when you zoom out, as both people are technically you – it means you’re the only person who fully understands yourself and everyone is lonely in that way.
Musically it’s more upbeat than the other tracks on the album and most of what is used in terms of arrangement is based on real instruments (trombones, piano, strings) We wanted to get a good mix between electronic and organic textures.
Morphine
Like most of my songs, I already had Morphine down as a song name, which I wanted to write to, so we worked from that. It’s the most transparent song on the EP, I suppose. It’s about struggling to let go of something, even if it’s causing you grief and you know you’d be better off without it. But also at its core, it’s a classic love song
Unveil
Unveil is about reaching out and opening up to someone and being shot down when you do. Musically, Harrison and I wanted to write something more laid back and production heavy, but tried to keep the melodies catchy.
Minnows
It’s about feeling detached from reality when you’re at your lowest, which is why the beat feels sluggish and the vocals are pitched down.
